University of Toronto Scarborough PWR Play Alumni Event
On October 23, 2014, the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC) hosted a UTSC alumni networking event called PWR Play at Sassafraz in Yorkville. Having only graduated from UTSC earlier this year, it was the first alumni event I was invited to, and I extended the invite to Brian at HSS, since he also attended UTSC for his first two years of university.
The venue alone was impressive, and overall it was quite an experience. It was interesting learning how and why fellow alumni got to where they were today, and whether they were in the same field they studied in.
Much to my surprise, I didn’t see anyone I knew from my program. Even more surprising was the fact that majority of the people I met were graduates from 2008 and earlier. I can see why they keep attending the alumni events. It was a great opportunity to connect with people from various industries, and the fact that we were all UTSC alumni was an easy ice breaker.
As a student, I didn’t have much time to join clubs or groups, so I really didn’t get the chance to meet people outside of the Management program. Alumni events make up for it in a way, and I plan on attending the ones for the other campuses and the University of Toronto as a whole as well.
All in all, it was a good introduction to the UTSC alumni community – good food, good drinks, great people and amazing hosts. I’m already looking forward to the next networking event.
